Some common questions we get asked and hopefully some helpful answers.
Q – What is Naturism?
A – Naturism is a lifestyle choice centred around non-sexual public nudity, emphasising body positivity, freedom, and connecting with nature. It often involves activities like swimming, sunbathing, and socializing in settings such as beaches, resorts, or clubs like Broadlands where nudity is permitted. At Broadlands our naturist ethos focuses on health, comfort, and acceptance of all body types rather than exhibitionism or sex. It’s about feeling natural, free from clothing constraints, and experiencing the environment more intimately, promoting a healthy, stress-free attitude towards one’s body.
Key aspects of our naturist philosophy:
- Body Acceptance: It’s about embracing bodies of all shapes, sizes, ages, and conditions, fostering confidence and reducing body shame,
- Freedom & Comfort: Clothes can be restrictive; naturism offers freedom from societal pressures and the discomfort of clothing, allowing for a natural feeling of sun and air on the skin.
- Social & Environmental Connection: Naturism fosters a sense of community and a deeper appreciation for the natural world, often going hand-in-hand with environmentalism and healthy living.
- Non-Sexual: A core principle is that naturism is non-sexual; interactions are respectful, and sexual behaviour in public is prohibited.
- Activities: People engage in typical recreational and daily activities—like swimming, walking, picnicking, sunbathing—but without clothes, in designated areas.
Q – What kind of people are naturists?
A – Naturism welcomes everyone; there is no specific ‘type’ of person.
From educators and artists to builders and retirees, naturists are people from all walks of life.
Naturism offers a liberating and grounding experience for individuals across all ages, and backgrounds and can have often have a positive effect on a person’s mental and physical well-being.
Q – Is naturism sexual?
A – Absolutely not. Naturism is a lifestyle focused on social nudity in harmony with nature, promoting self-respect and respect for others. It is a non-sexual practice and any inappropriate behaviour is not tolerated at Broadlands.
Q – Is naturism legal in the UK?
A – Yes, naturism is legal in the UK. It’s not against the law to be naked in public, as long as the intent isn’t to cause alarm, distress, or harassment. There are also many designated naturist beaches, clubs, and events across the country. Broadlands is just one of large community of naturist venues
First-time naturist concerns
Q – I am very body conscious; what will people think of me?
A – The truth, naturists are some of the friendliest and most sincere people you could wish to meet. We have a far greater understanding of the fact that we are all different shapes and sizes and that’s perfect. The only person who needs to be comfortable with your body is you. When you strip away the designer clothes and the fancy labels you get to know the real person, not what someone wants you to see. The real secret……. those models you see in magazines, very few of us actually look like that, naturists are just ordinary people just like you and we come in all shapes and sizes.
Q – It’s my first time, will I have to undress straight away?
A – We understand your first time as a naturist can be an exciting while nervy moment. We all started somewhere, and we know it can be a daunting prospect. If this is your first time visiting a naturist site please take your time to acclimatize and adjust. Once you feel comfortable with your surroundings, we promise you will feel confident enough to undress and will never look back.
Q – Will people be looking at me if I am naked?
A -No they will not. One of the common fears for new naturists is that people will stare at them. Much like when you walk down the high street in your clothes amongst everyone else who is clothed no one pays any attention to you. When you are alongside like-minded naturists being naked is as normal as being dressed – people just want to relax and enjoy their day.
Rules at Broadlands
Q – Are there rules about clothing at Broadlands?
A – The rule is that you should be naked whenever the weather or circumstances permits. We are a fully naturist site. You are free to wander around our site and public areas and carry on with your daily activities without clothing. Please make sure you have a towel to sit on. Most members wear clothes to our evening events. Of course, when it’s cold we put on clothes to keep us warm. Nothing strange about that!
Q – Do you allow body piercings/jewellery?
A – Discrete piercings and jewellery are OK as long as they have no sexual connotations. We are a family friendly club and wish to promote social naturism in a non sexual environment.
Q – Are sexual activities allowed at Broadlands?
A – No. If you’re looking to ‘swing’ good luck to you but you’ve arrived at the wrong club! Please shut the door on your way out.
Q – What happens if I undress and become aroused?
A – Honestly, it is very unlikely. There is nothing sexual about naturism, it’s just people going about their normal day without clothes on. If you find yourself in this situation politely cover yourself with a towel until it has passed. You would then need to understand that if you have made it a sexual situation for yourself that naturism probably isn’t for you.
Q – Do I need a towel to sit on?
A – Yes, it is a universal rule of hygiene and respect to always carry and use a towel when sitting on communal furniture, sun loungers, or chairs.
Q – Can I take photos?
A – For the protection and safety of our members and guests, photography is generally not allowed in public areas around our site and premises.

A – We are a family-oriented club and welcome all children so they can enjoy a naturist holiday with their parents or carers.
